At Culinary Concepts, we are committed to continuously refining our business to ensure we are as eco-friendly as possible. We have outlined below the following ways in which we have changed our ways of working to achieve a more eco-friendly output.
Our Mission
Our mission was and remains to this day, to create a company that specialises in designing innovative items for the tabletop and home - not only beautiful but functional and affordable. By rethinking, reducing, and recycling, we are minimising our impact on the environment.
We have looked at the general day to day running of our business, the process of designing, sourcing, and the additional materials we use to dispatch parcels to our customers. We are continuously striving to improve, monitor and reduce our impact on the environment.
Recycling/Waste Management
We encourage our team to recycle, reuse and avoid unnecessary use of materials, water and electricity whenever possible. All our general recycling and waste is then taken to a transfer station which sorts the commodities for onward recycling. Broken products that are not suitable for sale are broken down into components for recycling.
Packaging
We aim to use zero non-recyclable or non-bio-degradable plastic in our packaging by end of 2025 and improve the packaging that we use to send products to our warehousing. In the last year, we have made huge strides forward in removing plastic from our packaging. We have sourced an eco-friendly paper alternative to bubble wrap to wrap our outgoing parcels from our Hampshire Warehouse, which is fully recyclable and biodegradable.
Packaging we use in your parcels:
Paper Tape - Made with 100% brown recyclable paper and reinforced for strength.
Acid-free tissue paper – This is used to wrap our delicate items to ensure they are protected in transit
Hive Wrap - We have replaced bubble wrap with hive wrapping paper to wrap the items within customer parcels. This helps minimise items moving around in the box and being damaged while in transit with the courier. The packaging is 100% recyclable and biodegradable.
Void Fill - We have invested in a wonderful machine that turned our excess cardboard boxes into handy recyclable void fill to pack out our customer parcels.
Printing & Paper Use
We have minimised the use of paper whenever possible and purchase recycled and recyclable paper products only. We reuse and recycle all paper where possible.
We have significantly reduced our paper consumption by investing in digital handheld scanners for our warehouse staff to pick orders.
Transportation Of Goods
In gaining a better understanding of the impact that production and transportation processes have on the environment, we are committed to monitoring and working continuously to improve our environmental performance. The majority of our items are currently manufactured in India using handmade techniques in fully audited and approved factories. For these orders, we utilise cargo shipping to transport our goods to the UK. This is currently the eco-friendliest option for international transportation (over road or train). We understand that there is still work to do to improve the efficiency of this method which we monitor continuously.
Couriers
All of the couriers we use to deliver customer parcels are taking steps to improve their carbon footprint.
DPD are in the process of building the largest all-electric delivery fleet in the UK. Find out more via the Green DPD website.
APC recognise that operating in the transport sector they have a significant part to play in reducing our negative impact on the environment. They carefully plan and model their trunking schedules to achieve route optimisation, best use of available resources and reduce Co2 emissions.
Royal Mail has the UK's largest 'Feet on the Street' network of over 85,000 postmen and women already and has the lowest reported carbon emissions per parcel of any major UK delivery company.
The Pallet Network are investing in new vehicles that utilise the latest in technology, this means their fleet emits less carbon and other potentially harmful bi-products. The fleet is managed using a comprehensive, state of the art vehicle management tool, which enables them to promote safer and greener driving throughout their operation.
Energy Usage
At our Hampshire head office, we have replaced all of our lighting to energy-efficient LED fittings. When not in use computers and printers are turned off. Heating is adjusted with energy usage in mind. Energy saving is promoted throughout the company and to all of our team.
